501(c)(3) nonprofit impact platform

economic dignity is a human right.

the birthright project is a nonprofit that builds accessible, technology-enabled tools, programs, and platforms that advance economic dignity for under-resourced communities.

we design, build, and support locally led enterprises that expand access to digital skills, community care, and opportunities to earn, build, and own.

our priorities

we focus on priorities that move communities forward materially.

digital access and capacity

accelerate digital opportunity, so everyone has the tools and training to participate in a changing world.

community wellbeing infrastructure

strengthen community wellbeing with the care, support, and infrastructure people need to live and build.

financial empowerment and autonomy

build enterprise and ownership pathways that drive sustainable, communal prosperity.

what we build

birthright labs builds digital paths to economic dignity.

we build and distribute modern, accessible tools, products, programs, and enterprises across Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

we test what works, prove the model, and turn it into something local builders and communities can own.

put simply, labs is a factory for creating things that grow with communities, deliver meaningful impact, and return profits and ownership to them.

why

why we do what we do?

one. we learned from experiments that some of the best ways to serve communities can also sustain themselves.
so, we build mission-led enterprises that meet real needs, create income and opportunity, and return value back into the communities they serve.

two. why(not)?

our network

we're embedded in the communities where need + trust coexist.

our groundwork team is a distributed network of hundreds of local builders, fellows, and partners who live and understand the needs and nuances of each community intimately.

this approach helps build trust and directly connects us with the builders and thinkers who will take the work forward and own it.

africa — abuja · accra · lagos · nairobi · mombasa · kampala · monrovia

the caribbean — kingston · haitian communities

latin america — cartagena · brasília · mexico city

underserved diaspora communities — across the US, UK

we follow the osmosis principle: resources flow to areas of greatest need.

our people

the birthright collective was formed in 2025

birthright was created by a diverse, dispersed community of thinkers, artists, doctors, scientists, and contrarian optimists.

how we fund the work

building toward work that can sustain more of itself.

the osmosis fund was seeded by the birthright collective in 2025 to give early experiments practical runway — and to build toward work that is carried increasingly by enterprise and cooperative value, not donations alone.

sources
  1. proceeds from birthright's ventures
  2. individual gifts
  3. corporate support

donations fill the early gap. as ventures earn, a share of value returns to the work — helping the nonprofit become independent of donations over time.
